wow it's been a busy couple of months! senior portrait photographer

wow it has been a crazy couple of months. I have been working and gearing up for our super busy spring/summer season. Oh and I have been photographing all our 2011 Spokesmodels!!!

I have also been working on a side project called Get Schooled School Portraiture. It is for professional photographers only. It is a guide to boutique school portraiture. A fun way of changing the old boring school portraits of the past. I have helped fellow photographers develop their own school portraiture division of their photography business. It has been so fun and continues to be one of the best things I've every done! Love it. love helping.

Another fun project has been re-branding. Look at the storyboard I sent my designer.

and look at our new logo. it = love for me. Today we are finalizing the business card - she has given me so many awesome options I am having the hardest time narrowing it down! After the business card is finalized we will move onto splash pages, letter head, tags, packaging and the list goes on and on. I love my designer and once the project is done I will do a huge love post about her!

on a freezing cold December day their warmth, laughter and love made it feel like spring. A beautiful bride, a handsome groom, getting ready to start a life together. Loving each other, protecting each other and taking each step holding each other's hands. it was so fun to photograph my best friends baby sister and her fiance. what to wear - what not to wear - knoxville, TN. photographer

so i am always asked what should we wear. I have a guide for my seniors but not for my family. on my December/January list of to do's until then i will just list a few what not to wear and what i think you should wear.

not: insert a little black block over your face if you have worn any of these for family photos. I am kidding, i will bust out the picture of myself and my sister with me in a HUGE SUNFLOWER PRINT dress. it's HORRIBLE!

do not matchy matchy: for example do not have EVERYONE in the same color shirt with the same color/type of pant. this creates a 'blob' look. bunch of heads attached to a blob of x color.

do not wear to LOUD of patterns. i however adore a stripe here and a little polka dot there.

Do:

do pick a common theme, or a center piece item to build your families wardrobe off of. for example your daughter has the cutest dress ever. the one below let's say [it's from Boden by the way] so you would maybe find yourself a beautiful sweater in the dark pink color with some warm brown pants or a skirt. Then you could put your husband in a deep yellow shirt with dark brown pants, any other children could have same style of dress on maybe in a polka dot or stripe in coordinating colors, grandparents also would pick colors from the palette of the dress! Picking a focal outfit and build off of the colors in that outfit creates a cohesive look with out all being in the exact same thing!

do: pick clothes you love and would normally wear. do not put your husband in very dressy suit shirt and tie if he NEVER wears that... Try to just look your best self. Buy items for your session you will love and wear again and again.

do: incorporate texture and interest. with a few fun pieces of jewelry, a headband, stripe or polka dot tights with a solid dress.

do: be aware of shoes, this doesn't mean go out and buy all new shoes for the family. it's just that you do not want to limit your shots because your child is wearing my little pony shoes with an orange and brown dress... If they are not an important thought out piece of your wardrobe such as cute little girl boots, or bright colored converse make sure they are subdued, dark browns/blacks - shoes that won't take away from the shot!

hhhmmm so i think i will post my Christmas wish list here on my little ol' blog. the kids have been ordered to start creating their list and it got me thinking. what do i really want for christmas? so here it goes.

this little pretty. so sweet and oh so cute. i must have.

two of these for each my children. actually i'd even love one for each of my dogs. i think a profile shot would be next to impossible to get of the pawna and romers. don't you just love? i do.

oh i already bought this poster for myself - i couldn't resist.

and a bookshelf like the one above wouldn't be so bad either. i need unique, inexpensive shelves, dressers, etc.

But I am so silly I had four in my cart and then thought "oh i don't need four" so i emptied 2 out and only purchased two. then thought "oh darn wish I had four" but by that time they were all sold out. but i am so happy with my two!!!!

as the senior portrait season starts to slow down just a bit i can't help but be so very grateful for all the beautiful east tennessee high school seniors I've had the privilege to capture with my camera. best friends and siblings, cowgirls and singers, those with a passion for reading, music and shoes, players of every sport, the tops of their classes, future doctors, lawyers, photographers, cosmetologists, business executives. these kids are amazing. they are not only beautiful on the outside but equally amazing on the inside. They are aware of the world around them, getting ready to take it on full force. During the summer they volunteer here in our community as well as in the global community. they are active in young life, their church and families. they are role models to their siblings and friends. each one of these kids has shown me that the future is bright because they will be running it! CONGRATS Class of 2010 - enjoy everyday of your senior year . . . It's going to be awesome.

a beautiful day filled with best friends and senior portraits.
I had so much fun capturing K's senior portraits. her mom, sister and two best friends were a blast and we laughed and laughed - a lot! these are two quick sneak peaks. i love the aqua color against the green and the girls all in white next to the lake.... STUNNING! We had to dodge jet skiers and what not but hey we got a shot without a single boat flying by. what do you think of this? all i can say is the giggleBOOTH is more fun then you can even imagine. it's better the a photo booth for many reasons! Let me count the ways.

1. you aren't limited to 2-3 people. we can get at very least 10 of your favorite peeps - sometimes even more, depending on how cozy you want to get!
2. we can set up ANYWHERE. no need for power cords or electricity. giggleBOOTH in a field of flowers? why not!!!
3. great way to document everyone at your event. fun to view all the images.
4. gives your guests something fun to do!
5. it's perfect for MANY occasions. wedding receptions, your company holiday party, sweet sixteen birthdays, any birthday, bar and bat mitzvah's, business grand opening.
The possibilities are truly endless!

a little sleeping in
a little ok a lot of coffee
kids playing in their rooms
ESPN gameday on the TV
so i decided to start a series called simply saturdays
and what it will be is things i have simply loved this week . . .

1. The Beatles: Rock Band = AMAZING we haven't stopped playing since we picked it up on 09/09/09 so fun! my sweet 11 yr old boy is the biggest Beatles fan. the 1st time we played i looked over at him and tears were falling down his cheeks. I asked him what was wrong and he said "I just wish I could have been there" that boy of mine is so so so unbelieveable. his soul is so kind and his heart so wide open

2. i know i can't stop talking about my high school senior portraits but i simply love capturing this fun time in teens lives. so here are just a few who's galleries went live this week . . .

4. website - can't get enough of this site: Clickin Moms. why i didn't join AGES ago when I first heard about it I will never know. Such a fun place, really warm and welcoming as well as informative. you never feel silly asking a question and that is the best in my book!

5. we are simply counting down till Vegas - can't wait to see my family. can't wait to celebrate my sweet cousins 21st birthday. can't wait to dress up and laugh and be silly. here is the dress i bought for the big 21st birthday dinner/going to the club night. what do you think? i've gained TONS o WEIGHT so i had to find something SIMPLE.
J.Crew always a simple solution - love them! no just trying to figure out accessories and shoes! want to funk it up a little. any suggestions?!?!?!

the wedding, the giant sphere, and club le conte - knoxville wedding photographer tn

the day started early at cook loft on gay street - an amazing place for the bride and her bridesmaids to relax and take turns under the curling iron and makeup brush. Amy is simply genius her planning was perfection. the loft for getting ready and for her and JD to stay in after their amazing reception, it's right next door to club Le conte. genius i tell you. a beautiful day of getting ready and love between all the bridesmaids. i was beyond blown away by Amy's calm nature - she wasn't full of anxiety and if she was she hid it very well...

as Amy slipped into her gown a hush of tears fell over everyone - she was stunning and her gown was perfect. a beautifully calm bride ready to begin her journey as Mrs. Daniels.

then as Amy planned the bridesmaids and Amy hit the streets of downtown Knoxville for some fun pictures. one of my favorites below - baby bump bridesmaids. the dresses chosen for the bridesmaids were the prettiest i have ever seen. they reminded me of a greek goddess dress in black. each and every bridesmaid look simply stunning. again Amy and her amazing planning. I personally think she may have to add on to her wedding photography business a division of event planning!

we made our way to the ceremony site an equally genius location the worlds fair park amphitheater.
the sounds of Irish fest were easily drowned out by the beautiful sounds of the natti love joys playing songs of love and joy. the guest couldn't help but dance a little in their seat to the warm reggae beats. family and friends all gathered on the stage to surround JD and Amy with love and overwhelming happiness. It could be seen on every one's faces this was a couple perfect for each other and families so excited to join as one and witness the vows of marriage.

a joyful champagne toast was shared by the entire wedding party only minutes after the ceremony and that was the beginning of a reception full of laughter and amazingly fun dancing. this amazing group of friends and the family really knew how to have a good time - the joy and excitement was contagious. i was even persuaded onto the dance floor.

it was a beautifully perfect day that i know Amy and JD will look back upon in 40 years with tears in their eyes remembering the love, laughter and pure joy that was felt. I am honored they asked me to document their day. Thank you both.

and this is what happens when a groom asks a wedding photographer "what do you want me to do" and I reply with a smirk - " just look at your beautiful wife" Amy busted up "you are the 1st one to say that" it shocked her a little to be referred to as wife. so so cute - I love these shots!!!

Oh my gosh I've wanted to attend a workshop by the amazing Ali Hohn so very very badly - but none are planned in the area so - I am going to plan one! my good intentions of more blogging have truly gone by the way side, basically before i even started and that my friends is not good! so here I am on Wednesday the 1st of July making a promise to myself to well blog more. Which if even once a week it would be more then now - LOL.

this week so far.

- i've been listening to this non stop
i can remember when i was in the 1st grade [i think] and walking in the front door of our home on Palm Ave in Modesto - and my Uncle and Mom so excited cause my Uncle had bought the Thriller album - we popped that record on and had a dance party straight up in our living room. those were the days. now i've totally kept the tradition alive with DeLaura Dance Parties. The kids and i blast a good dance song and laugh our booties off as we dance around our kitchen - the current favorite is Genius of Love by Tom Tom Club. So much our favorite my husband has this as 'my' ringtone when I call him...

- my littles have been with their aunts/uncle/cousins/nan and pop since Sunday morning. I miss them like crazy crazy crazy but boy has the house stayed so very clean and i've been so productive. They will sleep in their own little beds tonight. I have a feeling they are pretty beat - so much fun will do that to you!

- i've been editing all my senior sessions of late. i am loving so many of the images but i will leave you with this one cause well it has to do with a contest and it's fun and if you know any high school students you should direct them to Peachtree Studio Seniors - the blog [it will be updated later today]

I want to document my next year of life both business and personal. I feel on the cusp of a lot. we have no idea the power of a kind word. i have probably blogged about this before but it is very true and a reminder is needed. on day while at borders buying some books/goodies, me not having the best day ever walked up to the cashier to pay for said goodness and chatted a moment with the cashier when she said to me "i hope this doesn't sound to weird but you have the most perfect teeth, they are so pretty" i think that happened to me about 2 years ago and still when i think of the little moment it makes me smile. it makes me feel good. a total stranger. she say good teeth, she liked my teeth and she told me. anyway the whole point is when we see something we like, think is beautiful, makes us happy, something we appreciate - let's all try to express that just a little more. a sort of compliment pay it forward. you never know how much a kind word or two can greatly impact a persons day, month or even 2 years.

and I am grateful for these kind words from some of my recent wedding clients.
i am grateful to each of them - for accepting me with open arms into their very special moments and days. i am honored and blessed. thank you.

August is the month - the month they will say I do... I am lucky enough to be a part of their beautiful union, the one who gets to document each little detail, every little moment. The location: the amazing Ijams Nature Center. Oh my, the Ijams Nature Center will be an AMAZING place to start a life together. They are a sweet, smart and super interesting couple. As I type this I am a little nervous knowing they will more then likely read it and I have probably already made like 200 grammatical errors, I am sure my use of comma's makes them both nauseous. They are both University of Tennessee Graduates and are ready to start a life together. Just being in their presence you know they are PERFECT for each other. I can't wait for the beautiful summer morning when they both say I do . . .

Wow four shoots to share, the sun came out on Thursday and so began some super fun sessions. Senior Portraits on a 115 year old farm, family session in the fruit and berry patch, Seniors on their way to prom and a Senior Session starting at a post office. Each session so very unique and each session a total joy!

This afternoon the sun was beautiful and warm. I was able to meet a dear friend of mine Leslie Miller she is the author of The Gypsy Gourmet blog. It is a lovely blog to read, stories about locally grown/crafted foods. It encourages me as I try hard to eat better and stay on a healthier path. And that girl can make a mean batch of hummus. My favorite! I took some shots of her doing what she does best talking to farmers, bakers and local farmers market vendors. It was fun... and she bought my kids a cookie. They were so excited! Please check out her blog and pass it on to friends. It is a wealth of knowledge as well as such a fun read.

well seeing as my hair has been every shade of the rainbow - yes even a small dose of hot pink once. no i was not a teenager or a punk when i had the pink. i was a preschool mom with a baby daughter and three year old son. ohhh those were the days. Let's face it i've had the same cut and color this time around the longest then any other. i get bored with my hair and i love a change so it's getting warmer, spring has sprung, tulips are about to bloom and i just feel the need for a little change as well. no i don't think i'll cut it - finally a good length, no mushroom top layers in sight, so cutting is not a option. that leaves me with color. right now it's my natural, born with this color, color. hhhmmmm so i've been blonde, i've been black, i've been EVERY shade of brown, i've had pink, what the heck is left. . . RED! It's a big decision and not one I take lightly so i have been searching the internet with the intensity of a [what is something intense?] oh a girl who is making a big decision about my hair. Yes that will do perfect, I've been searching the internet with the intensity of a girl making a HUGE decision about her hair! LOL here is what i've come up with. please coomment with a yay or nay - I need opinions and so far in my house these are the ones i've run into...

my husband: "yea, maybe some red highlights - not like clown red." my response: "well i did have a picture of ronald mcdonald to take to the hair dyer girl"

my son: "NOOOOOOOOO" This coming from the boy who told me "mom you like willy wonka, the johnny depp one" when i had black hair - I have to admit he was on to something there!

the daughter: "NOOOOOOOO"

So as you can see I need your YAY! to balance out those responses. LOL ok just kidding you be honest!

I think the top deeper shade i like better then the last one - may be to light for my skin. Ok tell me what you think!!!

yes me. career fair invitation?!?!? whhhhhhat! can you believe it. i can't but i am so excited. one of two speakers. 35 minutes of me getting to talk with 7th and 8th graders about the amazingness of being a photographer. of the joy it brings. talking to them about following their passion no matter how scary. choosing a goal and following it. getting to share with them what i wish i would have done differently or even what i would have loved to know in the 7th grade [no i won't tell them that wall bangs are a bad idea]. oh goodness do you think these kids are ready for a blubbering 31 year old lady talking about how much she loves capturing beautiful moments in peoples lives?!?!? does anyone want to start a poll of how long it will take before i start crying?

so if you were speaking at a 7th and 8th grade career fair what would you bring for the students? hhmmmm i want to be cool for sure. candy? no i think that is like against school policy, a stranger bearing candy. hhmm maybe i will set up a fun photo booth and let them have their portrait taken with friends! Dumb?!? i will have to keep thinking.

oh and this is random but what is a blog post without a photo! as you may know i shoot a TON of senior portraits and love it. so I will leave you with a few teen shots from this last week

the beauty of a family - newborn photographer, Knoxville, TN

I am so blessed to be able to photograph such lovely, kind, beautiful families. The T Family made me feel like I had known them for years. Both Jennifer and Jim are beautiful people inside and out, their sweet little ones are surrounded by such love and care. Being with them and photographing this amazingly precious time in their lives made me reflect on my little family, so very similar to their family. Both of us with an older son and a younger daughter. as i clicked the shutter I couldn't help but be reminded of our 1st weeks welcoming our daughter into our little life of three.

I went home from the session and stood in the kitchen watching our daughter run down the stairs with her long dark hair, talking and chatting about what she was doing while I was gone, it was such a huge reminder that the moments are fleeting and beautiful photographs pause those passing moments, they remind us that yes they were "once that small" and with each day that goes by they will never be "that small again"
we must cherish each moment, kiss them lots, laugh with them more, and most important document! Press the pause button on life a little more.

Thank you so very much Jim and Jennifer not only for asking me to document your growing family but for the reminder of how blessed we are to have such amazing children!

i know i've said it before but as i go through the hundreds i captured on this very special day i am reminded of what a beautiful day this was. venue, family, bride, groom, friends everything simply stunning, simply beautiful and the common thread was love. love was at every turn. laughter and love. i know everyone is very excited to see the gallery and for it to go live. only a short little while longer, i promise. 8 days of married life for Shawn and Andy as of today. What a lovely way to start a life together surrounded by 300 adoring friends and family.

oh how i miss the warmth of summer. can't wait for the long hot days. lots of sun. i am a photographer and i miss the sun when it's gone! yes i can create light with flashes but nothing is as pretty as a photograph filled with sunshine. as some of you know or may not know i was a designer for a scrapbook website for almost two years. the time has come for me to resign. i was sad to leave. such a huge part of my life for so long but it was for the best Peachtree Studio is growing and i am so excited about 2009. all the exciting things we have in store for the business and for our clients. i wanted to be able to give 100% to each shoot. and that was the final reason for the decision. i have loved the hobby and the people and the fun that it has brought to my life and i am really grateful for SIStv but it's time to say goodbye - only to my obligations as a designer not to the friends i've made through the process! with that being said I have TONS of products/supplies that i would love to pass along to those area scrapbookers i know. so if you would like to come to a little craft sale - let me know! email me at info@peachtree-studio.com

LOL these girls are my friends, my girls. i trust them completely, they make me laugh till my face hurts and i feel like i've done 200 crunches, they have my best interest at heart. they hope for me and i for them. no competition just real true friendship more like sisters

giddy giddy - I have a new lens and it's a macro [meaning I can get SUPER close] Great for detail shoes, wedding dresses, food, rings, flowers, my kids eyeballs! Since unpacking this little deal I got - I've shot all the veggies in my fridge, my wedding rings, the ring below that belong to my great aunt. I wear it daily and I think it's beautiful - a gift from my mom on my 30th birthday! It's a fun - pretty inexpensive lens. It is making me happy. I have lots to work on when shooting it but here are a couple shots SOOC with slight sharpening for the web. Pretty happy. with the looks of it, the color, the DOF. What do you think? Watch for wedding details soon. I have my 1st solo wedding on Feb. 7th. I am so EXCITED!

Ashley is smart, funny and totally giving. She is truly the BEST friend and I am so lucky to know her and be a part of her life. Anyway - you will really really really love this class.

a good amount of amazing photographers are doing a cans for comments campaign and i think it's a fabulous idea. in my attempt to really teach my children gratitude we've organized our neighborhood in providing Christmas for a family at our children's school. It has touch my heart so much to see everyone coming together to help this family have the best Christmas. I don't know the family and it's totally anonymous but just simply knowing that the parents won't be stressed and there sweet children won't be disappointed on Christmas morning makes me just want to cry. We did not have much at all growing up - I've been in there shoes and this year I've cut back on my spending for my children/husband/family members and have vowed to do a little more for others. So with that being said for the next 24 hours, I will be running the Cans for Comments Campaign on my blog. Here is how is works . . .

1. Leave one comment within the 24 hour period. Dec. 11th 10am - Dec 12th 10am

2. Link my campaign on your blog - just have your friends and family come and leave a comment as well. And they can even link my blog - the more comments the more cans.

3. I will count all the comments and donate a can of food for each comment. The cans will be split up between Second Harvest and our schools MOMS anonymous organization!

this image is of my little table at the vendor showcase at the country club. It was a fun evening, met lots of wonderful people. What do you think? It was kind of a last minute thing. A simple set up, and no the bride on my slideshow is not Violet Beauregarde - not sure why it shows up so blue on camera. I do notice as I look at this image I should have more of a "sign" with my logo and such. For sure next time.

I created this post using the MCP actions Blog it Boards seriously they are
amazing. Quick easy and super simple. For my scrapbooking friends you
HAVE to try these. The are a great addition to you scrapbook arsenal! You will LOVE them.

the 1st storyboard is just a few of my favorite images of little ones ages 4 - 7
love that age, super cute, funny, not too much of an attitude yet. I can still make them
smile and laugh with my silly monkey impersonations. Gotta love a lady with a camera
acting like a zoo animal. Gets them EVERY time.

I've been asked by many of my clients for digital negatives, I understand the day and age calls for this. While I love to use the amazing print company WHCC, I also understand that print costs are rising and it would be much more economical for you to purchase the digital negatives from me and print them yourself, at the lab of your choice [or even in your home printer]. With blogs, scrapbooking, facebook, myspace and email having your images on disc is the best choice for busy families! Of course I still can help you with any of your custom print needs, such as; canvases, custom photo jewelry, and even simple print fulfillment, I'd be happy to.

The beauty of the wedding day

I recently captured a beautiful bridal season at Riverwood Mansion in Nashville. Such a lovely place, truly beautiful bride and venue. I look forward to capturing this wedding in February. I had the pleasure of shooting bridal portraits at the amazing Riverwood Mansion in Nashville yesterday. Beautiful location but the bride was even more beautiful! I had a wonderful time with the family and couldn't have pick a better way to spend the day.

I had the pleasure of photographing this amazing family on Friday. I loved their energy. There home is beautiful and we laughed a lot, blew a lot of bubbles, and even did a little dare devil action with a steep walking path and a big wheel! take a peek at just a few of the shots...

i feel sad and helpless. Valerie owned No Bare Pages with Carma. Ladies who believed in me - encouraged me, dear friends that i have so much to thank for, i taught my 1st class at NBP, so many happy memories. the news of loosing Valerie has broken my heart. I wish I could be there to comfort my dear friends. it's been so long since we've talked but I feel such a connection to these amazing women. my heart aches. Please pray for Valerie's sweet daughter. She is so young. just all seems so unfair. please pray for peace.

i am blessed. helping people capture special moments in their lives.

in the last 3 days i've captured a women only weeks away from bringing her 1st child into the world. a sweet, kind girl who will make an amazing mother. a young girl embarking upon the best year of high school, funny and smart. making steps towards a life she chooses. and a little boy with a precious face and a family who envelopes him with love and adoration. it's a joy to be a part of these precious seconds, pausing them for a lifetime. i am honored that they invite me into their lives to help them create a documentation of this very moment!

L.O.V.Ethis little yellow umbrella just jumped out at me on my thrift store trip today. hunting a globe and found a yellow umbrella! but i love it... look for it soon in a session with a baby belly! can't wait!
